Mini bio
How it started.
Katya grew up in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and moved to London in 2008. Her own About page dates the blog to 2009. Exploring East London’s independent cafés gave her something she wanted to share, and the project grew into an illustrated guide to Hackney’s morning spots.
From guidebook to Instagram.
In a 2018 Standard interview, Katya recalled that her friend Roma suggested an Instagram account for the project at Christmas in 2011, after its first guidebook edition. The account developed a stronger focus on food and lifestyle. She later told Eastlondonlines that Instagram’s Account of the Week feature brought her first 10,000 followers and helped her see the project’s reach.
Making it her work.
In her 2018 Beast interview, Katya described leaving her job to become a full-time blogger as her biggest success. Her work now ranges from London restaurant visits to travel and wine features. She also contributed photography to Gabriele Gugetzer’s 2022 book Lunch in London.
