Mini bio

How it started.

Jeff began Fireship in 2017. Before making videos, he consulted on Angular and Firebase projects and saw room for more tutorials about the tools he used. The channel began as Angular Firebase, then became Fireship so he could explore a wider range of development topics.

Finding the format.

In his 2023 Honeypot documentary, Jeff traced 100 Seconds of Code to early 2020, when the short explainers became especially popular. His approach is to keep cutting until a video teaches its concept as concisely as possible. That tight editing, dry humor and distinctive delivery became central to Fireship’s style.

The work fans know.

The channel pairs quick introductions to languages and tools with The Code Report’s technology coverage. Longer videos include the programming-language tour God-Tier Developer Roadmap and JavaScript: How It’s Made, which explains what happens beneath the language’s surface.

Building a team.

Electrify invested in Fireship in 2024. In January 2026, Fireship joined forces with ui.dev to make videos, courses and the Bytes newsletter together. Jeff said he retained creative control and continued working on and voicing every video.

In his May 2019 essay about becoming a Google Developer Expert, Jeff explained why enjoying the creative process matters more to him than audience size.

Trivia

  1. The Fireship name reaches back to childhood: Jeff recalled telling strangers he would one day own a “fireship.”
  2. His recorded delivery is a broadcast voice he developed over time, with pauses cut out during editing.
  3. In the 2026 merger FAQ, Jeff confirmed that he voices every video himself and that Fireship had never used AI voiceovers.
