Mini bio

How it started.

Gaby began college on a pre-med path, switched to business and worked in fashion PR. When that company folded, she enrolled in a small Los Angeles culinary program. In 2009, she started What’s Gaby Cooking to show friends and family what she was learning while working as a private chef.

The breakthrough.

Jessica Simpson mentioning the blog’s Slutty Brownies on The Tonight Show brought a rush of visitors that crashed the site. Gaby kept building a voice around approachable California cooking and gathering people at the table.

From the blog to the bookshelf.

Absolutely Avocados arrived in 2013. Everyday California Food followed in 2018, then Eat What You Want in 2020 and Take It Easy in 2022. Her 2024 book, Grilling All the Things, became an instant New York Times bestseller.

Around the table.

Her work now reaches beyond recipes: Dalkin & Co. offers seasoning blends, her Crate & Barrel collection includes dinnerware and serving pieces, and her Neighborly restaurant menu brings together salads, sandwiches, wraps and bowls.
