Mini bio
How it started.
Jasmine grew up in Los Angeles and originally planned to enter the medical field. She discovered veganism during college and came to embrace its ethical and environmental reasons. In 2013, she started Sweet Simple Vegan as a hobby and creative outlet.
Making it her work.
After college, she took a year away from further schooling to focus on the blog, and it became her full-time work. She now develops recipes and creates content with Chris Petrellese, helping home cooks try approachable plant-based meals.
Food with a familiar feeling.
Her Filipino recipes draw on childhood favorites. For her vegan pandesal, she recalled weekend trips to Filipino bakeries with her family. In 2020, she demonstrated vegan Ecuadorian locro de papa for Good Morning America during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Beyond the blog.
Jasmine and Chris received VegNews’s Editors’ Vote for Favorite YouTuber in 2025. She also co-created an oatmeal raisin cookie nut butter with Ground Up, inspired by a childhood flavor and the response to the blog’s oatmeal raisin cookies.
