Mini bio
How it started.
Jeff’s interest in computers grew around the radio stations where his dad was chief engineer. He saw servers and workstations up close, and his dad brought home retired servers and Linux CDs. Before high school, Jeff was already working with Linux and small networks; building a wired network for a local grade school helped that interest grow.
Writing what he learned.
Before YouTube became his main focus, Jeff worked in software and infrastructure. He published Ansible for DevOps in 2015, drawing on projects such as Drupal VM and the Raspberry Pi Dramble. Ansible for Kubernetes followed in 2019, and he turned his Kubernetes 101 livestream series into a book in 2021.
The channel takes off.
In his 2021 retrospective, Jeff traced his renewed focus on YouTube to the growth of his 2020 Turing Pi Raspberry Pi cluster series. In early 2021, income from books and the channel, together with support from Patreon and GitHub sponsors, let him leave his last paid consulting gig. His channel grew from just under 100,000 subscribers to 253,000 during 2021.
Building alongside the community.
Jeff keeps sharing the practical details behind his experiments, from Linux setup notes to hardware teardowns. In January 2025 he launched Project MINI RACK, an open source resource for compact 10-inch equipment racks. In September 2026 he announced HomelabFest, bringing that interest in community projects toward an in-person gathering.
