Mini bio
Before the videos.
Julie worked in adult mental health in the NHS for about ten years before setting up a small private practice around family life. Teaching clients how their minds worked made her want to share that knowledge beyond the therapy room. Her husband encouraged her to make it available online.
Finding her audience.
She began posting short psychology videos in 2019. Her accessible explanations found a much larger audience during lockdown, helping people understand anxiety, low mood and confidence. She now shares mental health education across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
From videos to books.
Her 2022 debut, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?, became a number-one Sunday Times bestseller. Penguin reports more than a million English-language copies sold and translations into over 45 languages. Open When… followed in 2025, with letters and tools for difficult moments. She is also an ambassador for BBC Children in Need.
