Mini bio
Where it started.
Kunal grew up in New Delhi and studied hotel management in Chandigarh before working with the Taj and Leela hotel groups. In a 2026 interview, Kunal recalled choosing the profession in 1997 despite a family tradition of banking.
From kitchens to television.
MasterChef India brought Kunal to a wider audience in 2010, judging home cooks alongside Akshay Kumar and Ajay Chopra. Junior MasterChef India followed, along with food and travel programmes including My Yellow Table and Pickle Nation.
Cooking for your own table.
The cookbooks carry that teaching into everyday meals. A Chef in Every Home arrived in 2014; Kunal Kapur in the Kitchen followed in 2021 with 15 complete meals inspired by family food memories. Online, Kunal publishes recipes with ingredient lists and practical steps for home cooks.
Following food stories.
Travel also feeds the work. In a 2026 Outlook Traveller Eats interview, Kunal described learning more about biryani by tasting it in Hyderabad. The restaurant project Pincode Bungalow in Goa draws on places, memories and dishes from that journey.
