Mini bio

How it started.

Hannah Reid and Dan Rothman met in their first year at the University of Nottingham. They began playing bars and clubs together, then met Dot Major, who was studying in the year below. In an early interview, Major remembered driving to London once a week to play gigs.

Finding their listeners.

They put “Hey Now” online without a press photograph or a band blurb, letting listeners discover the song first. The Metal & Dust EP and debut album If You Wait followed in 2013. The album went double platinum in the UK, and “Strong” won an Ivor Novello in 2014.

Growing together.

Truth Is a Beautiful Thing in 2017 and Californian Soil in 2021 both became UK number-one albums. Their fourth album, The Greatest Love, arrived on 13 September 2024. Reid described sharing their art with others as a continuing passion for the band.

Room to experiment.

For The Greatest Love, they found their own room at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13 complex. Rothman and Major told Apple Music that having a base let them take more time over sounds and work in different combinations. Their music still starts in several ways, from a guitar loop to Reid at the piano to all three playing together.
