Mini bio
How it started.
Born in Phoenix, Mark grew up in France, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya. After graduating from Arizona State University in 2008, Mark travelled through South America, then started Migrationology in early 2009.
Finding a way to keep travelling.
Teaching English in Bangkok helped pay the bills while Mark worked on the blog. Selling the Eating Thai Food Guide became a turning point. Simple street food videos grew into a career sharing meals around the world.
From a shared meal to television.
Mark told Tatler that meeting filmmaker Eric Khoo over wanton mee eventually led to Food Affair with Mark Wiens. The six-part HBO series explores Singapore’s hawker food and fine dining. Epic Food Journeys later brought Mark’s food travels to National Geographic, and the series won a Webby in 2026.
A kitchen of their own.
Mark also co-founded Phed Mark with Khun Tan, Khun Pongthep and Chef Gigg. The Bangkok restaurant grew out of a conversation about where to find their favourite pad kaprao, the Thai holy basil stir fry.
