How it started.

Before food videos, Mehul worked as a software developer. He says he used savings from that job to try a YouTube channel about Mumbai’s food spots. His website dates the launch of Aamchi Mumbai to 2015 and his move onto Facebook and Instagram to 2017.

Finding an audience.

Mehul calls the launch of Jio in India a turning point for his work. His videos let fans watch vendors prepare food, from fruit-cutting skills in “Fruit Ninja of India” to egg-stuffed paratha. He also says he wants to give self-employed women street vendors a platform to tell their stories.

Following the food.

His travels take the channel beyond India. Recent videos include balloon pizza in Fukuoka, udon cutting in Tokyo, Malaysian curry puffs and corn slicing in Bangkok.
