Mini bio
How it started.
Growing up in Dallas and studying at Dartmouth, Priya found a subject she wanted to keep exploring: food. Her college newspaper column turned dining hall ingredients into new meals. That work led to her first book, Ultimate Dining Hall Hacks, in 2014.
Finding her way.
Cold emails helped her get a restaurant PR internship and a customer service job at Lucky Peach. She learned how food magazines worked, contributed stories when its website launched, and left after three years to freelance.
Recipes from home.
Bon Appétit’s dahi toast video introduced many viewers to Priya and her mother’s cooking. Her 2019 book Indian-ish put that family food on the page, including roti pizza and saag made with feta. It became a New York Times bestseller, bringing everyday Indian-American cooking to more home kitchens.
Beyond the recipe.
Priya went on to co-write Cooking at Home with David Chang and create Priya’s Kitchen Adventures for young cooks. At The New York Times, she has worked as a reporter, video host, and interim restaurant critic. Her On the Job series spends time with the workers behind the meals, from kitchen cleaners to dim sum servers.
