How it started.
Russell’s interest in marketing began with collecting junk mail at age 12 and paying close attention to commercials. Wrestling was another early focus. They became a high-school state champion and continued wrestling at Boise State while starting an online business.
From experiments to ClickFunnels.
Early ventures included ZipBrander in 2003 and instructional potato-gun DVDs in 2005. Frustration with the technology needed to build sales funnels led Russell and Todd Dickerson to launch ClickFunnels in October 2014. Russell turned those practical lessons into books, talks and training for other entrepreneurs.
The books fans know.
DotCom Secrets arrived in 2015, followed by Expert Secrets in 2017 and Traffic Secrets in 2020. Together they cover building sales funnels, communicating expertise and helping potential customers find a business. In a later podcast retrospective, Russell described DotCom Secrets as a key part of helping people understand ClickFunnels.
A new chapter.
In October 2026, Russell introduced Bootstrapped Secrets, following earlier versions of their podcast including Marketing In Your Car and Marketing Secrets. The new show follows the process of building OverSkill, with room for experiments, launches and lessons from the ClickFunnels years.
