From Hilo to YouTube.

Ryan grew up in Hilo, Hawaii, and began uploading in 2006. In his PBS Hawaiʻi interview, he explained that putting camcorder videos online was simply an easier way to share them with friends. Lip-sync clips with Sean Fujiyoshi grew into comedy sketches, including the early “How to be” videos.

His nigahiga channel became YouTube’s most-subscribed channel. Fans followed sketches, movie parodies and comic songs such as “Nice Guys,” made with Chester See and KevJumba. He also collaborated with Wong Fu Productions on the 2010 short film Agents of Secret Stuff.

Music, books and new formats.

In 2016, Ryan joined David Choi, Philip Wang, Justin Chon and Jun Sung Ahn in the parody K-pop group BgA.
