Mini bio
How it started.
Before the daily political show, Sam worked in Boston comedy. He left law school to pursue comedy and helped build the Comedy Lab with fellow performers. His 1997 mockumentary Who’s the Caboose?, starring Sarah Silverman and Sam, follows aspiring actors through Hollywood’s television pilot season.
Finding his audience.
In 2004, Sam and Janeane Garofalo co-hosted The Majority Report on Air America. He relaunched it as an independent online show in 2010, carrying its political interviews and commentary into podcasting and video.
The show today.
The Majority Report pairs progressive news commentary with long conversations and audience calls. Emma Vigeland is its co-host, and listener memberships help fund the show, including its extra Fun Half segment.
A familiar voice.
Sam also voices Hugo and Harold on Bob’s Burgers. His comedy and political work met a new audience in 2025 when his appearance debating twenty Trump supporters on Jubilee’s Surrounded drew widespread attention.

- Sam and fellow Bob’s Burgers voice actor H. Jon Benjamin are both Connecticut College alumni from the class of 1988.
- Who’s the Caboose? brought Sam, Sarah Silverman and H. Jon Benjamin together years before Bob’s Burgers.
- In a 2004 Gothamist interview, Sam said two police officers taking a report at his apartment ended up watching his comedy pilot Beat Cops on his couch.
