Sandra Lee was already a board-certified dermatologist in Southern California when she began sharing the procedures she saw in her practice. Her skincare brand’s timeline dates her first blackhead extraction video to December 2014 and the birth of Dr. Pimple Popper to February 2015. Those close-up videos helped her find an audience that wanted to see how skin conditions are treated.
From popping to prevention.
The online audience opened a way to explain skincare beyond the examination room. Sandra began formulating SLMD in 2016, and the brand launched its Acne System in March 2017. Her aim was to make dermatology knowledge and targeted skincare available to people who could not easily see a specialist.

Her TLC series Dr. Pimple Popper began in 2018, and her book Put Your Best Face Forward brought her approach to skincare into print that year. In 2025, Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out launched on Lifetime, following patients, an expanding practice and the doctors she mentors. She also serves as an executive producer.
