How it started.
Shane began posting YouTube videos in 2008. Comedy sketches, original characters, celebrity impressions and pop-culture parodies helped him build his first audience.
Longer stories.
He moved into longer creator-focused series, including The Truth About Tanacon and The Secret World of Jeffree Star in 2018. Away from video, his personal essay collections I Hate Myselfie and It Gets Worse became New York Times bestsellers.
A public reckoning.
In June 2020, he apologized after racist videos and inappropriate comments resurfaced. He took about 15 months away from YouTube before returning to uploads.

The Shane Dawson Podcast launched in 2022, bringing personal stories, comedy and conspiracy-themed conversations together. His newer work also includes Patreon series and live events built around his independent pilot, Cancelled.
