Mini bio
Before the blog.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Tanvi studied IT engineering in Nashik before returning to pursue dance. She trained in Indian classical styles as well as jazz and freestyle, but described size-based barriers to a professional dance career. Fashion styling became another way to express herself; in her own YouTube introduction to Style Above Size, she recalls working as head stylist on shows for Channel V and Bindaas.
Finding her community.
In 2016, she walked in Lakme Fashion Week’s first show for plus-size men and women. Meeting other participants and hearing how body shame restricted their lives prompted her to blog about her own experiences. Confessions Of The Chubby Twirler became a home for plus-size looks, shopping ideas and self-acceptance.
Style, movement and representation.
Her work brings fashion and dance together: officewear lookbooks, try-on hauls and plus-size versions of familiar Bollywood characters. Her beach recreation of Besharam Rang attracted widespread coverage around New Year 2023. She continues to use clothes and movement to make space for bigger bodies, while speaking openly in interviews about the strain of online harassment.
