How it started.
Tessa started Handle the Heat in 2009 while beginning college. In a 2018 interview, she described it as a hobby that grew until a recipe went viral. That response helped her see a future in teaching people to bake at home.
Finding her focus.
She focused on baking because she loved it and those recipes resonated most with readers. By 2013, she was earning enough from the blog to cover her living expenses. Her Bakery Style Chocolate Chip Cookies became her most popular recipe of 2018.
Why the recipes work.
Handle the Heat pairs recipes with explanations of ingredients, technique, and texture. Tessa develops and tests recipes before passing them to her team for testing in another home kitchen. Her cookbooks explore ice cream sandwiches and the science of cookies.
