Mini bio
Finding a voice.
Baya grew up in Kalmykia. In a NUSELF interview, they recalled being quiet at school and gaining confidence through clothing. An early experiment with a tartan skirt and leg warmers showed them how an outfit could express something they found difficult to say aloud.
From posts to brand work.
By 2019, Baya was creating content for brands. They told Ushatava that an Instagram invitation for coffee led to a year on its creative team. Afisha Daily documented their outfit-walk videos in January 2021, tracing the format from Instagram Stories to TikTok.
A wardrobe with history.
As a co-founder of Mytrendygrandma, Baya brings vintage clothing into their work. They told NUSELF that braids and silver jewellery help express their Kalmyk roots, and described buying fewer, better pieces and passing unworn clothes on through garage sales.
