How it started.
Bishamber found a beauty pageant on Instagram that had no size restriction. Entering Miss India Europe in 2014 as its only plus-size contestant, they represented the UK and finished as second runner-up. In a later first-person interview, Bishamber described using size as a point of difference and turning that experience into a modelling career.
Making room.
Bishamber became known as Britain’s first Asian plus-size model. Their work challenges the lack of South Asian representation in fashion and the narrow roles offered to larger women. Campaigns, traditional outfits and candid interviews give fans several ways into that conversation.
More than modelling.
Alongside fashion, Bishamber has worked in law and child protection and founded GirlLikeMe. Screen work includes the Waddi Gall music video; the Actually… podcast with Suhani Gandhi brings conversations about body image and social expectations into audio.
