Mini bio

How it started.

Lupita learned to cook as a child in Velasco, Hidalgo, helping her mother and grandmother. After settling in Turlock, California, she kept preparing the Mexican dishes she grew up with. She told La Opinión that her family encouraged her to record the recipes so they would be preserved.

Learning to share.

Her son Luis helped her open an Instagram channel and taught her to film and edit. In her September 2022 interview with La Opinión, she described gradually losing her nerves in front of the camera. Her children also helped translate the Spanish-language recipes into English descriptions.

At her table.

On El Menú de Lupita, she shares inherited recipes alongside her own experiments with Mexican ingredients. Her work includes enchiladas from the Huasteca, steamed birria and chicken soup, with family memories woven into the recipes. Immigrants Rising also featured her cooking channel in photographer Maren Caruso’s Behind the Menu installation.
