Mini bio

An early start online.

Maya began creating online content as a teenager in 1999, building an email magazine that reached 5,000 subscribers. She later studied computer science and became a software engineer. Learning to cook in her twenties gave her a way to bring her analytical and creative interests together.

From recipe notebook to full-time work.

She launched Wholesome Yum in 2015 to record the healthy recipes she was already making. The hobby grew into a site read by millions each month, and in March 2018 she left her corporate job to run it full-time. Her focus remains approachable recipes with short ingredient lists.

Books and ingredients.

Her first print cookbook arrived in October 2019 and became a USA Today bestseller. She followed it with The Easy Keto Carboholics’ Cookbook in May 2022, devoted to low-carb versions of comfort foods. In 2020 she also launched Wholesome Yum Foods with co-founder Jeff Lager, developing ingredients for cooking and baking.

What she cooks now.

After years of following keto, Maya describes a more flexible approach centered on whole foods. Alongside her low-carb recipes, fans will find quick dinners, vegetable sides, air fryer dishes and baking projects inspired by family and travel.
