Mini bio
How it started.
At eight, Kaku became fascinated by reports of Einstein’s death and his unfinished search for a theory of everything. In a PBS interview, he recalled wanting to understand what Einstein had left unfinished. By high school, he was building a particle accelerator in his parents’ garage.
From research to readers.
He graduated from Harvard in 1968 and earned his physics doctorate at Berkeley in 1972. He became a co-creator of string field theory, pursuing the effort to unite nature’s fundamental forces. His 1994 book Hyperspace became one of his early bestselling works for general readers.
The questions fans come back for.
His books connect physics with familiar science fiction questions: could we teleport, travel through time or build a future beyond Earth? The Future of the Mind reached No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. More recently, Quantum Supremacy explored the possible uses of quantum computers. Fans can also find him explaining science in television appearances and long online conversations.
