Mini bio

How it started.

Saagar grew up in College Station, Texas, and studied economics at George Washington University before earning a master’s degree at Georgetown. He told Politico that a cold email led to his start at The Daily Caller. His reporting roles included foreign affairs correspondent and White House correspondent.

Finding his audience.

From 2019 to 2021, he cohosted The Hill’s Rising with Krystal Ball. Their pairing brought left and right populist perspectives to the same desk. They also wrote The Populist’s Guide to 2020, collecting political commentary and media criticism around the Trump and Sanders movements.

Building his own shows.

In 2019, Saagar and Marshall Kosloff launched The Realignment at Hudson Institute, beginning with an interview with J.D. Vance. In 2021, Saagar and Krystal left Rising and launched Breaking Points. The independent show reached one million YouTube subscribers in 2023.

Beyond the news cycle.

History books are another way into Saagar’s work. His Substack shares reading lists and book giveaways, with subjects ranging from the Pacific theater of World War II to polar exploration. He has also made criticism of online sports gambling a recurring subject of his commentary.
