Mini bio
How it started.
Before readers knew his books, Gundry worked in heart surgery. He studied at Yale and the Medical College of Georgia, trained at the University of Michigan and later became chairman of cardiothoracic surgery at Loma Linda University.
A change of direction.
In his own account, a patient he met in 2001 prompted him to reconsider the role of diet in his work. He left Loma Linda in 2002 to establish the International Heart & Lung Institute, then published Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution in 2008.
From books to a weekly show.
The Plant Paradox became his breakout book in 2017, introducing a wider audience to his lectin-free dietary approach. Cookbooks followed, and he launched The Dr. Gundry Podcast in 2018. Fans now find his work through solo episodes, guest interviews and books about the microbiome and aging.
