Mini bio

How it started.

Born in Chelsea, London, Harris J grew up singing at school and performing nasheeds. Winning Awakening’s social media talent contest in 2013 led to a record deal. Harris continued studying alongside early recordings and graduated from the BRIT School in July 2015.

A greeting that travelled.

The debut album Salam arrived in September 2015. Its single “Salam Alaikum” brought a message of peace to an international audience. In an October 2015 NPR interview, Harris explained a wish to use music to challenge misunderstandings of Islam. The song also became a picture book, illustrated by Ward Jenkins and published in 2017.

Finding a way back.

After exploring pop and R&B, including the 2023 EP Phases, Harris returned to faith-inspired music. In a 2025 Popbela interview, Harris described an Umrah in 2021 and Ramadan in 2023 as turning points, alongside conversations with Maher Zain and Masood Curtis. The six-song Revival EP followed in August 2025, with “Qalbi Fil Madinah” featuring Maher Zain. In 2026, Harris joined Zack Knight for “Salawat.”
