Mini bio
How it started.
Jenna started Butternut Bakery in 2018 while working a full-time desk job. The self-taught baker used the blog as a creative outlet, naming it after the street where she grew up.
Finding her audience.
In an interview with Mia Dubin, Jenna described posting pictures of her baking on her personal Instagram. As those posts gained attention, she created the Butternut Bakery account and grew the project into a career.
Room for more bakers.
After discovering sensitivities to gluten and dairy, she began sharing modified recipes alongside traditional desserts. She also photographs the food herself.
A book for the kitchen shelf.
Her debut cookbook, Simple Sugar, is scheduled for November 10, 2026 through Clarkson Potter. It collects 95 Midwest-inspired desserts, with optional gluten-free and dairy-free swaps. Her announced November tour includes conversations with Justine Doiron in New York and Monique Volz in Chicago.
