Mini bio

How it started.

Jessica traces her love of baking to making chocolate cupcakes from scratch at 15. She later ran Jessiker Bakes while studying law, creating cakes and treats for clients.

Finding her direction.

The blog began as a showcase for her baking business in 2010. As savoury recipes became a bigger part of her cooking, she renamed it Jessica in the Kitchen in August 2014. Her own move to vegetarian eating helped shape its direction.

Making the leap.

After practising as an attorney, she moved into food blogging full time in March 2016. In a Google interview, she credited legal training with helping her stay organised and negotiate contracts. Google also reported a rise in traffic during 2020 as more people cooked at home and sought out Black creators.

Cooking through new chapters.

Jessica now shares vegan meals, desserts and kitchen guides. In her 2024 Food Blogger Pro interview, she explained how planning and delegating helped her take a year of maternity leave. In 2026, she returned to the subject of change on Tastemaker Talk, discussing how a creator’s brand can grow alongside their life.
