How it started.
Max grew up spending time at his family’s cabin, where growing vegetables, raising animals and chopping wood were part of daily life. He took charge of the grill and found pleasure in feeding the people around him.
Finding his audience.
He brought that love of cooking outdoors to social media as Grill Hunters. His aim, he told Authentic Pizza Ovens, was to help people try live-fire cooking in their backyard, at the beach or in the woods. Famous Birthdays reports that he began posting on TikTok in 2020 and that a video demonstrating cooking over a hollowed-out log passed 30 million views.
What he makes.
His published recipes range from smoked pork belly lollipops to cedar-planked salmon and maple crème brûlée with candied bacon. In an interview with Authentic Pizza Ovens, he described experimenting with bread, apple crumble and brisket in a wood-fired oven. He also teaches his children to cook outdoors.
