Mini bio

An eye for old things.

Nate grew up visiting antique shops, flea markets, estate sales and auctions with his mother, an interior designer. Work for a jewelry and furniture designer in Paris, followed by an auction house in Chicago, helped shape his eye. He founded Nate Berkus Associates in Chicago in 1995.

From interiors to television.

His 2002 appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show led to a recurring role sharing design advice and home makeovers. He later hosted The Nate Berkus Show and teamed up with Jeremiah Brent on home renovation television, including HGTV’s The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project.

Homes with a story.

Today he leads his design firm alongside Lauren Buxbaum Gordon. His work extends from private interiors to books and home collections. Foundations, published in 2025, brings that approach into a practical guide for readers who want their rooms to reflect their own lives.
