Mini bio
How it started.
Nick studied graphic design, then trained in commercial cookery. After a brief stint in the Royal Australian Navy and a trip to Europe, he worked at a cupcake bakery before starting The Scran Line in 2012.
Finding his style.
His design background found a home in colorful desserts. Bubblepop Electric Cupcakes became an early breakout, inspired by Gwen Stefani’s song. His 2019 cookbook Sugar Rebels brought that pop-culture-inspired world of cupcakes, macarons and cakes into print.
Beyond the cupcake.
In a 2021 interview with Hot Chocolate Hits, Nick described moving toward an enduring library of recipes, including savory dishes. He also discussed using his platform to speak about marriage equality and help young followers feel less alone.
From his own kitchen.
Today he tests, writes and photographs recipes in his Melbourne garage studio. His focus is approachable baking, with step-by-step photos and explanations that help home bakers understand why a recipe works.
