How it started.

Amanda is a self-taught baker who created I Am Baker in 2010. Her work brings recipe development, writing and food photography together, with an emphasis on helping home bakers feel confident.

The cakes that opened doors.

Her surprise-inside cakes hide shapes and designs beneath the frosting. The idea became her first cookbook, Surprise-Inside Cakes, in 2014. Her 2011 Rose Cake Tutorial is another signature project, showing readers how to cover a cake in buttercream roses with a large star tip.

Beyond dessert.

She also runs I Am Homesteader, sharing savory food alongside her baking work. In 2022, Homestead Recipes brought her Midwestern comfort cooking into a second cookbook. She wrote and photographed the book, with recipes tested by her and her team.
