Mini bio
How it started.
Raymond grew up in Selangor and moved to Australia in 2006. While completing a master’s degree in accounting, he found a creative outlet in baking. In a later interview, he traced his experiments with macarons to watching a MasterChef challenge in 2014.
Finding his audience.
He began sharing his bakes on Instagram, developing decorated fortune cookies, cake popsicles and celebration cakes. Features by Vogue and reposts from MoMA helped his work reach more people, followed by invitations to teach cake decorating overseas.
A taste of home.
Raya became a place to explore the Southeast Asian flavours he grew up with. He later opened Dua in 2025, combining Malaysian traditions with Nordic influences, and also co-owns dessert café Nimbo. His work extends beyond the kitchen: Tolarno Galleries presented his cake sculptures in A piece of … in 2024.
Recipes to share.
His 2026 cookbook You’re Welcome!, written with Audrey Payne, gathers recipes for everyday treats and occasions such as birthdays, weddings and Lunar New Year. In his Melbourne Food & Wine interview, he described the book as a way to reflect on his culture, relationships and growth as a baker.
