Mini bio
Family roots.
Arnie grew up with his mother’s and grandmothers’ home cooking and his father’s outdoor grilling. His family moved from Arizona to Texas when he was a baby, living in Pecos before settling in Edinburg.
From brisket to a camera.
He learned to smoke brisket while managing a used car dealership in Weslaco, then built a career around barbecue competitions and classes. During the pandemic, his children Dan and Sophie helped him film videos to promote his fajita rubs. A fajita tutorial took off, opening a new chapter as ArnieTex.
Recipes to keep.
His first cookbook arrived in July 2025 and became a New York Times bestseller. It brings together Mexican-American dishes and Texas barbecue. In an Edible Rio Grande Valley interview, Arnie said translating his instinctive cooking into exact measurements was one of the project’s biggest challenges.
